Organic Spree Sappan Wood Crushed 100gm (3.52oz) - Biancaea Sappan

This was my first time trying Sappan Wood, and I was interested in it because it is a traditional Ayurvedic ingredient that is supposed to be rich in antioxidants, thirst-quenching, and cooling. The flavor is very light, but the color is vibrant. I don't really mind drinking it, it's not particularly flavorful, so it's not like it tastes bad or good, just neutral. My only concern is that the company is called Organic Spree.. and the Sappan Wood itself has no certification or details on their sourcing.

This is a very nice product of crushed sappan wood. It is a very dry red chip as packaged in a resealable bag. There is no obvious smell with the chips. When I steepen in boiling water, it comes with a brilliant red color. Since the chips are floating on top at the very beginning, the color comes down gradually. It is beautiful. I just use the solution a nice drink. There is also no obvious taste, but it is a little bit sweet and very soothing. It is comfortable to drink this tea. Since his wood contains a lot of antioxidants, it might have benefit on anti-inflammation. The literature also suggest that this wood may have an anti microbial benefit. It would be a nice drink for long term use. Also because this product has a nice red color, it can be used as a food she for red color.

With all the new laws preventing harmful food coloring from food and drinks, I am always looking for new, natural ways to create vibrant colors. I've tried other woods, with very disappointing results. This on the other hand, was a very pleasant surprise. As you can see in the pics, a large pinch of wood shavings created this deep, vivid red color. Amazing. Some reviewers have been critical of the flavor, or lack of flavor... but that's NOT what you get this for. You get this for a natural color alternative. The flavor is very faint, with the slightest hint of wood. Imagine if you were chewing on a toothpick or a popsicle stick.

I'm rating this tea not for any purported health benefits, but for enjoyment.Flavor-wise, it is bland. But, surprisingly, after giving up on it after one flavorless sip, a few seconds passed, and then I wanted another sip. This strange process repeated until I finished the whole cup. Not sure what's going on inside my head, but that doesn't happen to me with other drinks.Color-wise, the wood is orange, but the drink is red.
